It's a bird, it's a plane...

It's a crane taking down the Superman ride at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom! According to local news, the ride is being disassembled - the same ride that severed a girl's feet last summer. The ride has also been removed from the Six Flags website, although this might not be recent news. I don't know if anyone has ridden the ride since the terrible incident, so maybe they took it off the website last year. What would the rating be if they had kept it listed? Mild, Moderate, or Max?? Max doesn't begin to describe what Kaitlyn experienced...

I was always a little reluctant to ride fair rides (particularly after a flying bolt left me bleeding one summer during my middle school years), but was generally more trusting of more permanent amusement park rides. That is, until I heard about this poor girl and that fateful trip to Six Flags. If I ever go to Six Flags (not likely), I hope they have really good shows. And maybe a good funnel cake.

Louisville dining does not equal Applebees

I found another blog that references a love for Louisville. The blogger visited on a business trip with his wife and "fell madly in love with the city." I was interested in his opinion until I read that he ate at Applebees and used this dining experience as material for his "I love Louisville" post. You can go to Applebees anywhere!! Why not try a Louisville Original? Or Sapporo for sushi, Jack Fry's for upscale, El Tarasco for mexican. Sure, he liked the new burger at Applebees, but he should have gone to the BBC, where he could have had his choice between beef OR bison (from a local farm) and completed the meal with a delicious Louisville beer. He already loves Louisville, but he doesn't know how good it actually is! Come back for another round, Mister. You'll be more impressed if you actually experience all that Louisville has to offer!

This is [Teen] Jeopardy!

I love to watch Jeopardy, particularly the teen or kids tournaments because I have a better chance of participating. During this month's teen tournament, Kentucky is proudly represented by Zia Choudhury, who advances to the finals on Thursday. I think he wins at least $20,000 a game. Incredible!

Did You Know? Kentucky State Picnic Food

In an effort to honor Kentucky's own Colonel Harland Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken, legislation has been proposed to make KFC's fried chicken the Official Picnic Food of Kentucky.  Sounds legitimate and reasonable - no harm, no "fowl," right?

Not according to PETA, who is completely against the tribute due to the accusation that KFC abuses and tortures chickens.  The spokeswoman for KFC, however, thinks everyone can easily support the legislation:  "Whether left wing or right wing, we think [the bill] is something both sides can agree on" (emphasis added).

Chicken dance, anyone?

Wedding Arms

With the wedding fast approaching, it's crunch time for last minute details - including significantly increased motivation to make it to the gym before the sun comes up.  The question is not how much weight I want to lose (don't wanna), the question is how to get Katharine McPhee's arms (gotta have 'em).

Shelby gave me my birthday presents early, which included a kettlebell (I'm sure to mistakenly call it a kettleball) that I hope will help me with this new wedding arms goal.  Then, Katharine & I can make our own "3 Months to Great Arms" video - assuming that's how long it took her and how long it will take me/how much time I have...

Yesterday: Happy Year of the Rat

A lot of good things are going to happen in 2008: marriage, summer olympics, cheaper car rentals...

I'm surprised that 2008 promises bring so many wonderful things, considering it's the Year of the Rat, member of the disgusting and terrifying rodent family. No wonder my year started off by catching FOUR mice in the cottage in less than a week. Their leader Mr. Rat was calling them to do his evil deeds.

But the Chinese apparently don't think so poorly of rats. If they had seen the rat traps at the hardware store when I bought the useful mousetraps, they might join me in being scared of all things rodent. Without careful handling, mouse traps can bruise your fingers; rat traps will break them (human phalanges = rat spines). On the other hand, if you eat rat meat, you might consider a bigger trap a good thing - more meat to go around!

1+2=Barack Obama? 3-2=Ron Paul?

With so many presidential candidates floating around, it's hard to keep track of who thinks what and know who lines up with what I want in America's leader. So I was relieved to receive a Candidate Calculator to make the decision easy.

Now if they could make a calculator to determine how to navigate the voting machines, we might see some progress.
